Message from the Office of Career Services

The world is becoming a global village and problems concerning work is an issue. unemployment, career indecision, career decision making, work adjustment and career education among others need attention in all countries.

What is career

The interaction of work roles and other life roles over a person’s lifespan including both paid and unpaid work in an individual life.

Career Development

The total constellation of economic, sociological, psychological, educational, physical and chance factors that combine to shape one’s career.

Importance of career guidance

  1. Good career guidance is critical if trainees are to raise their aspiration, make informed choices and capitalize on the opportunity open for them.
  2. It is also key to delivering technical education reforms and supporting social mobility.

Siaya Institute of technology is committed to producing holistic graduates who are prepared for job market and entrepreneurial activities.

The Ministry of Education through the state department of post training and skills development launched the Office for Career Services in 2019 to take care of:

  1. Helping trainees to gain greater self-awareness in areas such as interest, values, abilities and personality style.
  2. Connecting trainees to resources so that they can become more knowledgeable about jobs and occupations.
  3. Engaging trainees in the decision-making process in order that they can choose a career path that is well suited to their own interest, values, abilities and personality style.
  4. Assisting trainee to be active managers of their career paths (including managing transitions and balancing various life long learners in the sense of professional development over the lifespan.
