A graduation ceremony is a special occasion; a time of celebration, of contemplating a new chapter and opening a door onto the world of work and all the joys and responsibilities that go with it. Siaya Institute of Technology (SIT) is privileged to hold its 5th graduation ceremony. The Institute was started through community initiative in 1987. The main objective was to equip the youth with trade and skill to provide the Jua-kali industrial park initiated by the then KANU government in 1985, where each District through the then District focus for Rural-Development initiative was to erect Jua-Kali shades to serve the local community.
TVET act No.29 of 2013 has brought a series of changes in TVET sub-sector, which have enabled the government to provide infrastructure and enhanced training for the youth through access, quality, relevance and equity. SIT has embraced the four pillars through rebranding, that has changed the image of the institute therefore attracting more youth to join resulting in increased enrollment from 1600 in the year 2021 to 4640 in the current year. This has created pressure on the available space such as workshops and laboratories. Nevertheless, we are grateful to the Ministry of Education (MOE) through the Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) and African Development Bank (AFDB) for the construction of Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Building & Civil Engineering workshops, provision of computers for our computer labs through Jitume program and equipment for Applied Sciences.
We appreciate the Ministry of Education (MOE) – through State Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (SDTVET), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), NG-CDF, County Governments, Faith based organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and parents for offering financial support to trainees.
Graduation theme, “Skills Training for Sustainable Development” is in the context of the key challenges we face today as a nation. Sustainable development tows with industry partnerships and has no boundaries. By industry, I refer to the formal and informal sectors of our economy which include the private sector, small and medium enterprises, business chambers, digital superhighways, the blue economy, manufacturing processes and the public service for enhanced employability and employment.
However, allow me express my sincere appreciation to the Chief guest, the PS state department for TVET – Dr. Esther Muoria for honouring this invite and the staff on another successful graduation ceremony. I would like to remind everyone present that Siaya Institute of Technology is an excellent centre for Competency Based Education and Training(CBET).
To the graduands,  my message is simple: Everything learnt in school for 16 years can be sourced in a few seconds by a Google search. So, don’t let your Diplomas, Certificates and Grades make you arrogant neither do they  guarantee success. The world has changed, skills now matter more than mere paper qualification.
As SIT we play an important role in eradicating poverty by coming up with practical methods and solutions to create small and medium enterprises, that contribute towards sustainable entrepreneurial communities.

We strive to strengthen peer counseling while emphasizing on relevant research activities and publications.
My advice to our students is be free to share (talk about) the challenges they are facing so that they are assisted early enough before their academic performance and general well-being is compromised.
Siaya Institute is unique because it is easily accessible, our students are disciplined and take their academic work seriously resulting in better performance.

The Siaya Institute of Technology Alumni Association (STIAA) was launched in February 2019 and brings together graduates of the University to participate in governance and development of their alma mater as they socialize and network.
To safeguard the best interests of its members, to use the talents and resources of the alumni and friends of the Institute to support in achieving international distinction in quality teaching, research and service.
