Mission Statement

Siaya Institute of Technology Guidance and Counseling Department’s mission is to provide a proactive, comprehensive, and developmentally appropriate program to address students’ academic and career goals in addition to supporting their personal, spiritual and social needs.  This is accomplished through a partnership with parents/guardians, staff, and community members to enable all trainees to become successful, productive, contributing citizens and lifelong learners in a diverse and changing world.

BELIEFS OF THE DEPARTMENT

    1. All trainers and trainees are unique and should be treated with respect and dignity.
    2. Every trainee can succeed.
    3. Learning is a lifelong process.
    4. Fostering a positive self-image is the collaborative effort of the Institute, home, and community which leads to responsible and productive citizenship.
    5. The diverse needs of all trainers and trainees must be addressed through the Institute’s guidance and counseling program.
    6. Every trainee needs appropriate personal and social skills to achieve optimum benefits from the educational program.
    7. A comprehensive, developmental counseling program is not a support service but an integral part of the total education program.
    8. The Institute’s guidance and counseling program provides important benefits to individual trainees and trainers by addressing their intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and psychological needs.

HIV/AIDS MESSAGE

HIV is a preventable disease. Effective HIV prevention interventions have been proven to reduce HIV transmission. People who get tested for HIV and learn that they are infected can make significant behaviour changes to improve their health and reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to their sex or drug-using partners.

Tips For Building An Effective, Individualized HIV Prevention Strategy

We as SIT Guidance and Counseling Department intend to raise awareness about these interventions and make them accessible to those who may be at risk of  HIV and people with HIV. Several HIV prevention interventions are considered highly effective at reducing the risk of HIV transmission. These include:-

  • The consistent and correct use of condoms
  • The consistent and correct use of antiretroviral treatment (ART) by people with HIV to maintain an undetectable viral load
  • Oral Daily Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV-Negative Persons.
  • Avoid Sharing Needles
  • Prevent Infection After Exposure
  • Male Condom Use.

Discussions about HIV prevention and the additional risk reduction strategies are available at our office. To maximize effectiveness, HIV prevention strategies are combined within a comprehensive sexual health and harm reduction plan. This include regular STI testing and treatment, and ongoing counseling to support a variety of risk-reduction approaches and adherence to prevention strategies.

COVID 19 MESSAGE

One of the key priorities of Siaya Institute of Technology is ensuring that our institution is always safe and informed. To this end, we would like to inform you that we have been monitoring the coronavirus situation very carefully, and in response, we have put together a capable team of a Covid response team, health and other officials from within the Institute to plan the necessary precautions and help make critical decisions related to the prevention of the spread of the virus.

Stay safe, wear a mask at all times and practice social distancing
