Message from the Guiding & Counseling Head of Department

Welcome to Siaya Institute of Technology, as the Department head of Guidance and Counselling, I am charged with coordinating all activities related to guidance, counseling and relevant research activities across all Departments in the Institute. Ensuring the maintenance of high standards of guidance and counseling. Coordinating the publication of manuals, guidebooks, guidance and Counseling materials in the Institute. Ensuring that all Guidance and Counseling action plans and information materials are developed and used in the GnC programs. Coordinating with other organizations like Health providers to offer necessary services to Students and staff. Our Institution is committed to ensuring that the students who join Siaya Institute of Technology are well catered for in terms of their Emotional and Psychological well being as well health awareness creation.

As a department, we pride ourselves in establishing and maintaining strong ties with the National Aids Control Council which closely monitors the HIV/AIDS activities in the Institution. We have regular HIV/AIDS Tests and Talks which create awareness and reduces stigma and new infections. We have also partnered with The Siaya County Referral Hospital who are always ready to give awareness Talks and Free Medical Camps to our students and Staff through the Beyond Zero Campaigns. We strive to strengthen peer counseling while emphasizing on relevant research activities and publications. My advice to our students is be free to share (talk about) the challenges you are facing so that they are assisted early enough before their academic performance and general well being is compromised. Siaya Institute is unique because it is easily accessible, our students are disciplined, take their academic work seriously resulting in better performance. Guidance and Counselling needs full support from the trainers because they can easily identify trainees with problems and refer them for Guidance or Counseling since trainees who have gone through guidance and counseling are empowered, disciplined therefore productive.
