We are excited to host the official launch of the Siaya County Colleges and Universities Students Association’s ’25k 4 our future’ initiative.
This event, held at Siaya Institute of Technology, was graced by the CS of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy Hon Eliud Owalo and other dignitaries, was aimed at promoting a culture of environmental conservation through tree planting in our community.
The CS in his remarks noted that planting and nurturing trees to maturity has long been identified as one of the methods of conserving the environment as well as a method of reversing climate change. The lake region incuding Siaya had once been an attractive area with great rivers with clean, safe waters and lush greenery but this has seriously diminished over the years and thus great effors such as these would ensure the area is rejuvenated back to its initial state.
“Without rains there will be no food for us, and for our animals, in fact there will be no life.” he said.
We were honored to have the support of the president of the republic of Kenya in our efforts to increase the national tree coverage percentage. It was a truly inspiring event, and we are grateful to everyone who participated and contributed to its success.
We look forward to continuing our efforts to preserve and protect the environment for future generations.
